BLUSH Q&A
BLUSH APPLICATIONS
HOW DO I APPLY
POWDER BLUSHER?
Deposit color on the top of your cheekbone, then
pull down slightly and in toward the round part of your face so the color fades
forward to just below your pupil.
HOW DO YOU USE CREAM-BASED CHEEK COLOR?
Apply three dots along your cheekbone, then blend
up and out with your fingertips or a sponge. Or, apply color to the edge of a
damp sponge and gently pat up and down along your cheekbone.
WHEN DO YOU USE
BLUSH?
Cream blush, powder blush or gel blush should all
be applied after foundation and before face powder. For extra impact and all-day
color, apply translucent face powder over the rouge or cream blush and then add
powder blusher. The powder blusher will contour cheeks and rejuvenate the color.
If you have oily skin, you may want to avoid cream-based cheek colors.
HOW DO YOU APPLY BLUSHER ON AN AVERAGE FACE?
Apply blusher to the top of your cheekbone, then
pull the brush down slightly to just above the hallow of your cheek, forward at
a slight angle to the round part of your cheek just below the outside edge of
your iris, then back to the top of your cheekbone. Blend from your hairline out.
The color should not extend in past your pupil or below your nose.
HOW DO YOU APPLY
BLUSHER ON A WIDER THAN AVERAGE FACE?
To minimize a wide face, try applying blusher
from a wider base and in a more diagonal direction. Start by applying color on
top of your cheekbone, then gently drag the color down to a line level with the
end of your nose. Pull the color forward toward your mouth. Stop at the line
below the outside edge of your iris, then pull the brush up at an angle back to
the top of your cheekbone. Blend, working from your hairline in and down. The
color should not extend in past your pupil or below a line halfway between your
nose and mouth.
HOW DO YOU APPLY BLUSHER ON A NARROW FACE?
To minimize this shape face, or make it appear
wider, try applying your blusher from a wider base and in more horizontal
direction. Start by depositing the color on top of your cheekbone, then gently
drag the color down to a line level with the bottom of your face. Then pull the
color up toward the outside edge of your iris and back in again to where you
started. Blend, working from your hairline in and up. The color should not
extend in past your pupil or below a line halfway between your nose and your
mouth. If you need to apply more color, do so sparingly, and always work from
the hairline out rather than from the cheek in.
TIPS THAT WORK WELL WITH MOST FACES:
Always use a powder blusher to modify the width
of your face. Creamy cheek colors aren't well-suited for this. Its easier to
control the placement of a color if you apply your blusher with a small blusher
brush. Use larger brushes to blend. When your blusher is too intense, soften the
effect with translucent face powder. For longer-lasting color, apply a cream
blusher before applying powder blusher.
HOW
SHOULD MORE MATURE WOMEN CHOOSE THEIR BLUSH COLORS?
When your hair color becomes lighter, so should
your cheek color. If your skin is dry, a creamy cheek color will add a moist
glow to your cheeks. But if you prefer to wear a powder blusher, and many women
do, be sure to blend it well, especially if your skin is creased along the
cheekbone. If your hair is silvery-gray or white, concentrate most of the color
on the round part of your cheek rather than along the hairline, to prevent too
much of a contrast. Also avoid applying any color to the hollow of your cheek.
It will weigh down your face.
I WEAR GLASSES, HOW SHOULD I WEAR BLUSH?
If you wear glasses all the time, try applying
color to the top of the cheekbone so that a little of it shows through the lens.
Avoid extending blusher into the hallow of your cheek which can pull your face
down.
